WO: Weekly Obsessions

Today is the best day.

It doesn’t matter that my foot was smashed on the train. Or that a guy I was connecting with on Tinder turned out to be a creep (shocking!). Or that I had five hours of meetings.

Today is the best day, because I’m going to my first Yankees game of the season! They’ve played two without me, and I’m experiencing my first case of FOMO. Well, fear no more. Today is the best day.

  1. The Hudson Bond: Before the game, I’m hitting a quick work happy hour at this midtown spot. The weather is finally breaking, and we’ll be able to enjoy its patio even more in the coming months.
  2. Yankees Home Games: The smell, the sounds, the sights — I’m clearly more than excited for my first visit back to the Bronx since September.
  3. Brother Jimmy’s BBQ: Once inside, I have to hit up this chain’s amazing concession stand. I’ve been dreaming of the fried pickles for months, I tell you!
  4. “The Boys Are Back in Town” – Thin Lizzy: Well, duh. It’s no coincidence that this monster ballad has played on loop in my head all day. Let’s get ‘em, Yanks!

Read any Facebook feed lately, and it’s obvious: Weather is insane. My fingers are still defrosting from my walk THIS MORNING, and that doesn’t even compare to the insanity Atlanta folks are facing. Some distractions, while y’all thaw out:

  1. Devon & Blakely: With so many visitors and tourist-trap spots near my office, lunch is always a challenge. But this place has inexpensive salads and sandwiches made to order, plus premade soups. And the cornbread? I’ve been dreaming about it for days.
  2. Super Bowl Blvd.: Thousands are expected to check out this 13-block stretch of mayhem (again, right outside my office). The saving grace, though, is the 60-ft. toboggan slide … teambuilding has never looked so fun before!
  3. Fluff ‘n Fold: Let’s be real: I’ve never enjoyed doing laundry. But now that I have to leave my building to do it, well, I just don’t. Instead, I use a super-handy service that cost $25 to do literally a month (20 lbs.!) of clothes. With free pick-up and delivery, how can I resist?
  4. Christopher Walken Reads The Three Little Pigs: It may be hard for some to imagine, but Christopher Walken was a comedic genius long before “More Cowbell.” Proof is in the piggies, with this uncovered gem from the ’70s. Arrivederci!

Hope you guys have a fabulous time celebrating Puppy Bowl X and Super Bowl XLVIII! Here’s a sneak peek of Budweiser’s commercial if you’re more into those than what’s happening on the field.

And, be sure to follow @Macys on Facebook and Twitter — I may or may not be writing social media for the big game 🙂

As much as I’m normally a Grinch this time of year, a few promotions and opportunities to help others have put me in the holiday spirit. I’m still not singing “Jingle Bells” anytime soon, but check out these chances to give back and win:

  1. National Believe Day is Friday: Join Macy’s in its 5th annual partnership with Make-A-Wish®! They’ll donate $1/letter received now through Dec. 24, up to $1M— plus an additional $1/letter this Friday, for up to another $1M! Post a picture with #MacysBelieve and you could be in a Macy’s commercial — plus check out the TV special “Yes, Virginia” on CBS at 8:30 p.m.
  2. USF Share the Love: My alma mater’s Alumni Association is sponsoring this two-week contest with daily giveaways. Entering is super easy, and you can win tons of cute USF-themed items!
  3. Kobeyaki: The struggle is real to find a quick lunchtime spot that also satisfies. Lucky for me, the midtown location of this fast Japanese food place opened recently. Like their page on Facebook for a chance to win free Kobeyaki for a year!
  4. “Merry Happy” – Kate Nash: Pandora wins, once again. A breakup ballad that’s anything but sad, coupled with the Brits’ sense of humor. What’s not to love?

Weekend Recap

I’m generally not one to brag, but I have to say: My weekend was just plain awesome. It feels like I’m hitting my stride in my new city, and I couldn’t be happier with the experiences and memories I’m gaining.

Friday: SA-KE-BOMB!

  • All You Can Eat Sushi + Sake @ Chinatown East – sushi was delicious, but the unlimited sake bombs reeeally got the night going
  • One and One – a new favorite spot, it’s chill upstairs and a thumping club downstairs
  • Dancing at Pianos – worth the $5 cover to go upstairs for better music and quicker service
  • We hit another bar after that, but I don’t remember the name (sign of a good time)

Saturday: Low-Key Lounging

  • Slept in for the first time in weeks and accomplished nothing – oddly OK with this
  • Wharf in Murray Hill – visited our friend who works there for pre-gaming
  • Brooklyn house party – celebrated friends who graduated from hair school, law school, design school and another who passed the NY State Bar

Sunday: Fun-Filled Finale

  • Boozy brunch at The Guilty Goose in Chelsea – very strong mimosas alongside eggs benedict with a jalapeño hollandaise
  • Stopped in to see Heroes & Villains at FIT – fascinating facts featured in fun and interesting exhibits
  • Made our way home to watch SNL – Kristen Wiig’s return to the stage at 30 Rock did not disappoint
  • Phone date with Magz – because she should be celebrated every day for what she put up with from us

Though it went by way too quickly, I had an absolute blast throughout this weekend. I can’t wait to enjoy more of this improved weather and share my finds with you guys. Cheers!
