Playlist for a Rainy Day
All Hallow’s Eve began with dark skies and gloom, so naturally I have some favorite rainy-day songs stuck in my head. An additional bonus: These are great for helping you get through that inevitable Halloween sugar coma.
“Vienna” – Billy Joel: Slow down, you crazy child, and take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while …
“Crazy for You” – Adele: While I’m saddened she’s taking time off to heal her throat, I’m thankful we can still listen to her current smashing songs.
“Uninvited” – Alanis: Something about Miss Morissette makes it impossible to have a list like this without her present.
“Singin’ in the Rain / Umbrella” – Glee Cast: The originals are great, don’t get me wrong, but this mash-up is so perfectly paired.
“I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” – Johnny Cash: Sing it to me, Johnny (and other guy).
“What the Water Gave Me” – Florence + the Machine: This would be perfect to fall asleep to, if it didn’t disturb the hell out of me.
“The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” – The Postal Service: A soft male voice accompanied by upbeat bursts of synthetic sounds are all I need.
“Candles” – Hey Monday: The power lines went out, and I am all alone —I don’t really care at all, not answering my phone … (do you notice a recurring theme here?)
“The Cave” – Mumford & Sons: Slightly biased, but there’s no other song that calms me and quiets me quite like this one.
“Superstar” – Sonic Youth: Equal parts gloomy and creepy, AKA the perfect ending.
