Weekend Recap
It appears I’ve fallen even deeper in love with New York than I’d realized. Ain’t that the way it goes? I sure hope my main squeeze will continue to love me back.
This sums it up pretty well.
Summer Fridays Begin!
- Celebrated with a LOT of rounds at 169 Bar – the $3 popcorn snack is kind of a rip-off, but it’ll do when you’re drinking bourbon lemonades for eight hours
- Walked to Fontana’s – ordered pizza while attempting to watch the Pacers-Heat game … everyone expects the Floridian to root for LeBron, but I was too busy checking out Dwyane Wade
Seen it with my own eyes.
Saturday Soccer … at a Baseball Stadium
- Scored free tickets to see Manchester City vs. Chelsea at Yankee Stadium
- Walked over to The Dugout while the crowds cleared out
- Took our large and in charge group to Swig in the Upper East Side – new favorite for the Irish staff
- Hit Wharf in Murray Hill again, because we love our friend who works there
- Ended the night at Company, a bar I don’t generally enjoy but put up with anyway
#isthatweird?
When Brunch Becomes Last Call
- Boozy brunch at The Sunburnt Cow – one of NYC’s Top 10 according to the Google, but service could have used some help. Food was pretty good, but “bottomless” is relative to waiting 40 minutes for a refill #firstworldproblems
- Visited our other friend for the end of her shift at The Flying Puck
- Walked about 40 blocks to East Village superstar Off the Wagon
- Hit Fiddlesticks for another round of shots
- Pizza pit stop for our friend – no need for me to eat when I had two eggs six hours prior
- Managed to get over to Good Company in Billyburg at 9 p.m. and stayed till last call
You really can’t complain with a view like that.
Monday Funday
- Finally, the sun showed up! So we laid out at Central Park, in a spot called Sheep’s Meadow (not “Sheet Meadow” like I thought I overheard)
- Out to Bushwick for our friends’ BBQ
… And I lived through all of that to tell the tale! What are the best summertime spots in your city?

Guess I will have to rest up a bit to be able to keep up with your fast-paced lifestyle when I visit in July!
You’ll do just fine — though we do need to find you a bingo hall to enjoy.
I thought you were from Florida. You take a quick trip to NY. I lived there when I was really young so obviously a lot has changed. Glad you had fun.
I was born and raised in Florida but just moved in late December for a new job. You lived in FL or NY growing up? Both have their benefits and … special set of issues!
I lived in NY (Long Island) from 5-8. I don’t remember much other than we had an awesome forest in our backyard and a huge field. I lost all sorts of baseballs and gloves out there.
Sounds like the start of The Sandlot 🙂 I’d only been here a couple of times before and haven’t made it to Long Island yet.
The good news is, now both of my “homes” are places people like to visit + vacation!
That is good news. So what kind of job got you up to New York? Are you living in one of those gold infused Trump Towers?
I’m in advertising as a web copywriter, so I’m about the furthest thing from a Trump resident. A girl can dream …
That is what I always wanted to do. I just never got the right degree. You might not be in the Trump plaza, but you are living my dream!
Aw, man! I was very blessed to make industry contacts while still in college, but I’m told by the Real Housewives that it’s never too late to follow your dream 🙂
I don’t believe those lunatics. Besides, it isn’t my dream to be followed by cameras and making up fake things in my life to be interesting.
I keep making blog contacts. Maybe someday I will get a job in writing.
I’ve had success using Media Bistro, LinkedIn and Creative Hotlist in finding freelance gigs — what types of writing do you prefer?
I want to do humor postings. Do they have stuff for that? Thanks for helping!
They may not be as easy to find, but I’m sure there’s something if you dig enough 🙂
Thanks!
I hope I get to share in these adventures with you sometime soon! xoxo
Yes, please! We can’t wait to see you this summer, and hope it’ll be more permanent soon 🙂 Hugs<3
Oh gosh, I could tell I would just love New York. This is going to be my first summer working in downtown Chicago, so I’m excited to explore the options!
You definitely would love it here! I’ve only been to Chicago once, but there are so many options I’ll need to return again soon.
My favorite stops were in Wrigleyville — good on the budget and for the people watching 🙂
Since I’m not a Cubs fan, I may burst into flames in Wrigleyville, unfortunately.
Oh no! My college bestie is a huge White Sox fan, so I understand the hostility toward outsiders.
I was raised a Yankees fan and it feels so right to finally be a part of it (New York, New York) 😉
