WO: Weekly Obsessions

And just like that, it’s No-freaking-vember. I understand yesterday was Oct. 31, so naturally, today is November, but HOW? I feel like a new mom when I say the days are long, but the years are short. Before we know it, we’ll be saying “sayonara” to the garbage dumpster of 2017 and embracing the newness of 2018 for all of about two hours. Woo-hoo!

  1. Join the Movember Movement: My friend Nate is back at it again, raising money and awareness for men’s health in his fifth consecutive Movember campaign. He’s already more than halfway to goal — and it’s only Nov. 1 — but you can still support and get a super-sweet pic if you donate $50+. And, with VISA checkout, donations are matched (up to $25, so split ‘em up if you want extra points)! It takes seconds but can save so many lives.
  2. “Stranger Things”: Uh, duh. I couldn’t dress as Barb yesterday and not be totally hooked on this Netflix original. I binged all of season 1 over the weekend in preparation for my role (and a friend’s themed party!), but I have yet to dive into season 2 so NO SPOILERS. From what I’ve watched you’ll be just fine if you can get through the spookiness of S1:E1. Plus, these kids are so talented — and hilarious!
  3. “The Good Place”: After bingeing on a creepy show, I obviously needed a mental break. So I binged the first season and was pleasantly surprised. Again, NO SPOILERS on season 2 so far! Kristen Bell and Ted Danson are devilishly funny; and I highly recommend it, as one of the freshest comedies I’ve seen in years. Even the Rotten Tomatoes critics and reviewers give it an 86-90% approval rating!
  4. “I Put a Spell on You” – Screamin’ Jay Hawkins: There are plenty of haunting Halloween classics I could write about, but this one’s been in my head lately so it takes the cake. Notice, I’m not even touting the version from “Hocus Pocus” — personal growth again? Screamin’ Jay sure knows how to grab your attention and make you want to groove. What’s your go-to Halloween song? We can still talk about it, despite so many attempts to make Christmas happen, like, today ::eye roll::

Make It a Movember

No-Shave November is kind of unfair if you’re a lady (like moi). Try as I might, I just can’t seem to grow a sweet ‘stache in support of men’s health issues. I’m stuck simply donating monies and rocking assorted moustached items — life is tough. My favorite furry facial finds:

  1. Ring: Girlz Lyfe, $10
  2. Tee: Wet Seal, $14.50
  3. Tote Bag: Polyvore, $20
  4. Sunglasses:  eBay, Various
  5. Bandages: Urban Outfitters, $7
  6. Necklace: Windsor Fashions, $10.90
  7. Corkscrew: Fred Flare, $12
  8. Scarf cowl: etsy, $40
  9. Set of (6) Mugs: etsy, $66 (plus 15% off with code HOLIDAY15 at checkout!)

And don’t forget to show your support by donating to the cause. Brilliant!

WO: Weekly Obsessions

Anyone else exhausted from this election hub-bub? I’m sure mine has nothing to do with the late-night partying we did for Brother’s fiancée last weekend, or my growing excitement for their marriage to begin this Saturday … surely. Let’s get to it, shall we?

  1. Lisa Frank Pic ‘N Share: Remember how awesome your Trapper Keeper was all covered in Lisa Frank stickers? Well, now you can jazz up your photos with sparkly bears and unicorns! It’s a clunky app, but I love it all the same. Thanks to my friend, Sarah, for the find.
  2. “Top Chef Seattle”:  The 10th season of this award-winning cooking competition promises to be a great one. I met Top Chef Master Art Smith last weekend, and we gabbed about its return — we’re basically besties now.
  3. The Election Is Over: Flori-duh is a disaster, the country is divided and every thought to enter the public’s mind is published on social media. Nothing there has changed, though it needs to if we’re ever going to progress as a country.
  4. Movember: It’s that time of year when the menfolk grow their facial hair in a sign of solidarity to support men’s health issues. Donate to the cause, and stay tuned here for more mo’ updates.

I feel the same way, Abigael.
